Bleecker Street released the official trailer for their upcoming drama, “Disobedience.”
Academy Award-winner Rachel Weisz stars as a woman who was shunned by her community years earlier because of her attraction to a childhood friend. Her father’s death brings her back to the Orthodox Jewish community that once cast her out. When she returns, she reunites with her long lost friend (Rachel McAdams), who is now married. But that doesn’t stop them from rediscovering their old passions.
Weisz won an Academy Award for her supporting role in “The Constant Gardener.” In recent years, she starred in “The Lobster,” “The Light Between Oceans,” and last year’s period drama, “My Cousin Rachel.”
Rachel McAdams was nominated for her supporting performance in 2015’s Best Picture, “Spotlight.” Since that time, she starred in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” and will be seen at the end of this month in the comedy, “Game Night.”
“Disobedience” also stars Alessandro Nivola. His recent film credits include “Selma,” “The Neon Demon,” and he will soon appear in the Lynne Ramsay thriller “You Were Never Really Here.”
Sebastián Lelio directed the film and co-wrote the adapted screenplay along with Rebecca Lenkiewicz. Lelio also directed this year’s Best Foreign Language nominee, “A Fantasic Woman.”
Lenkiewicz’s first feature film, “Ida,” won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in 2013. She also wrote “Colette,” which premiered recently at the Sundance Film Festival.
“Disobedience” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September. Bleecker Street acquired the distribution rights soon after the premiere.
The film will be released nationwide on April 27.
