Amazon Studios released a new clip of their upcoming film, “You Were Never Really Here.”
The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as Joe, a military veteran with a penchant for violence. He earns his living tracking down missing girls. On a particularly precarious mission, Joe finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy that could have deadly consequences.
“You Were Never Really Here” premiered last year at the Cannes Film Festival. It scored two prizes, one for Best Actor Joaquin Phoenix. The other went to Lynne Ramsay for her screenplay. She was also nominated for the Palme D’or, the festival’s biggest award. Ramsay is known for intensely personal and dramatic films, most notably the 2011 standout, “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”
Phoenix is a three-time Oscar nominee. His first nomination came in 2000 for his supporting role in “Gladiator.” He followed that with Lead Actor nods in “Walk the Line” and “The Master.” This is one of several films for Phoenix this year. He also stars in “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot” and “The Sisters Brothers.” He also completed production on “Mary Magdalene,” but that film is still seeking US distribution following the collapse of the Weinstein Company.
“You Were Never Really Here” also stars Alex Manette and Ekaterina Samsonov.
This film is distributed by Amazon Studios and will be in theaters on April 6.
