Netflix has released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary series, “Bobby Kennedy for President.”
The film follows Robert F. Kennedy beginning with helping his brother get elected to the presidency and following through to his own assassination in 1968. During the 1960s, Kennedy served as his brother’s Attorney General, as a US Senator, and was killed during a campaign stop while running for President himself.
“Bobby Kennedy for President” is a four-part documentary series that uses rare, never-before-seen footage of the Kennedy family, of his work and life. It will also include interviews with some that new him best during those days.
Dawn Porter produced and directed the series. She made her debut with the documentary “Gideon’s Army” in 2013. The film told the story of Public Defenders, and was picked up by HBO. “Gideon’s Army” won an award at Sundance Film Festival for editing, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. It was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. She went on to direct “Spies of Mississippi,” which tells the story of a spy agency formed by the State of Mississippi to preserve segregation. Porter also recently completed “Rise: The Promise of My Brother’s Keeper,” which looks at President Obama’s program for young men and boys of color. This will air on both The Discovery Channel and the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Netflix has established itself as a home for documentaries and docuseries. In recent years, they have distributed films including Ava DuVernay’s “13th,” and last year’s “Jim & Andy,” and “Strong Island.” They have also given new attention to true crime and other human interest stories with docuseries including “Making a Murderer,” “The Keepers,” and “Wormwood.”
“Bobby Kennedy for President” will stream globally on April 27.
