Shane Black‘s “The Predator” has an official trailer.

The film from 20th Century Fox is not a reboot, but is, in fact, a sequel to the 1987 film. Black told Collider in 2014:

“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine? [I Like] the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”

The official synopsis from IMDb tells us:

“When a young boy accidentally triggers the universe’s most lethal hunters return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.”

Black co-wrote the script with Fred Dekker. The pair have collaborated before on “The Monster Squad,” which Dekker also directed. Black also directed “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and the divisive “Iron Man 3.”

For “The Predator,” Jacob Tremblay stars as the young boy who inadvertently invites the visitors back to Earth. Tremblay most recently starred in “Wonder” with Julia Roberts last year. He will soon appear in “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.”

This film also stars Sterling K. Brown, Emmy-winning star of “This Is Us.” Brown recently appeared in “Black Panther,” and his next film, “Hotel Artemis,” is due in theaters in just a few weeks.

Olivia Munn (“Office Christmas Party”), Yvonne Strahovski (“The Handmaid’s Tale”), Thomas Jane (“1922”), Jake Busey (“Ray Donovan”), and Keegan-Michael Key (“Keanu”) all appear in the film. The cast includes other familiar faces, too, including Edward James Olmos (“Blade Runner 2049”), Alfie Allen (“John Wick”), and Trevante Rhodes (“Moonlight”).

The original film, “Predator,” followed a military unit on a mission in Central America who were hunted by an alien being. It starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Shane Black.

“The Predator” will be in theaters on September 14.
