On Friday, the Cinema Audio Society (CAS) announced their timeline for the 55th Cinema Audio Society Awards. The CAS holds their awards for outstanding sound mixing in both film and television. The CAS Awards are considered a major precursor for the industry season and hold a great deal of weight. Last year, they gave out 12 awards across television and film. For film, CAS gives three prizes: Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for Motion Pictures in Animated, Documentary, and Live Action cinema. Last year, the CAS gave “Dunkirk” the Live Action prize, “Coco” the animated prize, and “Jane” the documentary prize. “Dunkirk” went on to win Oscar. However, CAS has only picked the winner of the Oscar 4 times since 2010. Each winner has received a nomination at Oscar.
CAS also awards the television industry. CAS breaks up the television awards by half-hour programs, hour-long programs, and TV Movie/Miniseries. “Silicon Valley,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Black Mirror (USS Callister)” took the prizes last year.
The ceremony will take place Feb. 16 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.
