WATCH: ‘A Simple Favor’ From Paul Feig Ups the Melodrama

Director Paul Feig has been one of the busier” men in Hollywood over the past decade. Feig crafts strong studio comedies starring women. Bridesmaids,” “Spy” and “The Heat” are exemplary work. However, the response to “Ghostbusters: Answer the Call” infuriated Feig. He took the attacks personally, potentially to the detriment of the film. His response to the negative opinion of “Ghostbusters” seemed to alienate some fans, not just internet trolls. Despite this, Feig remains a talented filmmaker whose projects are always interesting. His next film, “A Simple Favor” might be his most interesting yet.

Today, “A Simple Favor” released a trailer for the female-led thriller. Lionsgate is beginning the hype train for the film set to release on September 14th. The film stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively as two mothers in suburbia. When Lively’s character Emily goes missing, Kendrick steps up to lead the search party. Feig’s tone bears a slight resemblance to “Gone Girl” and melodrama thrillers of the 1990s.

The two lead actresses are well accomplished, and Lively looks to be giving career-best work. The cast also features some strong actors in supporting spots. Henry Golding is adding to an already strong year. Jean SmartAndrew RannellsLinda CardelliniRupert Friend, and Eric Johnson are all on board as well. With Feig pushing the strong ensemble, “A Simple Favor” expect fireworks and potentially greatness.
