Trailers and news are coming in fast as Comic Con unfolds in San Diego.
Universal just unveiled the highly anticipated trailer for M. Night Shyamalan‘s next film, “Glass.”
The sequel to “Unbreakable” and “Split” finds Samuel L. Jackson‘s Elijah Price, James McAvoy‘s Kevin/Patricia/Barry/Dennis/Hedwig/etc, and Bruce Willis‘ David Dunn all securely locked up under the roof of the same psychiatric hospital.
“Split” alumna Anya Taylor-Joy is also set to return, and does show up in the trailer. But the details behind why she is there are still secret. It has also been confirmed that Spencer Treat Clark will return as David’s son Joseph.
New to the cast is Sarah Paulson, who plays a psychiatrist studying patients with extreme delusions of grandeur. Paulson is a beloved star of television and film, with an award-winning performance in “American Crime Story.” She can still be seen in theaters in this summer’s hit, “Ocean’s 8.”
“Unbreakable” was something of a surprise when it hit theaters in 2000. Shyamalan’s follow up to Best Picture nominee “The Sixth Sense” was quite different from the film that made the director a star. The director reunited with his star for the film that played like noirish mystery/drama. Soon after “Unbreakable” was released, rumors circulated that Shyamalan was planning a trilogy. But after he went on to direct popular films “Signs” and “The Village,” his clout dipped with his fifth major release, “Lady in the Water.”
When “Split” opened last year, die hard Shyamalan fans were excited about the connection between the James McAvoy paranormal thriller and “Unbreakable.” It wasn’t long before Universal, Blumhouse, and Shyamalan confirmed that a third installment was, indeed, on the way. And this time, we didn’t have to wait seventeen years for it.
Universal will release “Glass” on January 18, 2019.
