Max Richter Confirms Tour Dates; Scores for ‘White Boy Rick’ and ‘Mary Queen of Scots’

Composer Max Richter continues to build up a reputation as a strong composer. He first made his way into the American scene when “Waltz with Bashir” made waves in both the animation and foreign language categories. He later scored other big films, including “Shutter Island,” and critical television hit “The Leftovers” for HBO. He’s also begun to gain a reputation as a live performer, after an eight-hour overnight show “Sleep” in Los Angeles. Yesterday, Richter confirmed that he is about to tour America, hitting cities like New York, Miami, and Philadelphia. He also confirmed his work on two upcoming films, “White Boy Rick” and “Mary Queen of Scots.
Richter announced his tour via press release last night. The two big films he will score this year will be “White Boy Rick” and “Mary Queen of Scots” for Focus Features. Each of those films has drawn early buzz, and are projected to screen at Telluride Film Festival. “White Boy Rick” stars Matthew McConaughey with Yann Demange directing. The film is a true crime story about a teenager who becomes an undercover informant for the FBI in the 1980s. Meanwhile, “Mary Queen of Scots” stars Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie. Directed by Josie Rourke, the period epic focuses in on Mary and Elizabeth as the struggle to rule Englan reaches a tipping point. Richter also teased the announcement of future high profile pictures in the future.
While Richter has not been nominated for an Oscar yet, he feels like he’s someone who will receive his first nomination soon. With two legitimate players, Richter hopes to get his first nomination this year.  Richter will be joined by the American Contemporary Ensemble on his tour. The New York performance coincides with the Sudden Departure Day, the inciting incident of “The Leftovers.
