While prestige festivals continue to announce new films for their lineups, the genre-focused Fantastic Fest is breaking out some fun flicks. Fantastic Fest may not be a household name the way that Cannes or Toronto may be, but many hits have made their world premiere at the Austin based-festival. Perhaps the biggest world premiere to launch at the festival was “There Will Be Blood” in 2007. Just two years ago, “Split” made it’s World premiere at the festival. It’s a great festival that continues to gain momentum. Yesterday, Fantastic Fest 2018 announced their first films from the lineup, including “Overlord” from J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot.

The lineup features some interesting films, and “Overlord” is chief among them. There’s a real chance that “Overlord” can push up on some Oscar categories for costumes, visual effects, makeup, or production design. After all, a high budget horror film set during World War is not your standard genre pick. Directed by Julius Avery and written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith, it may have the bones to be an above average genre flick. The rest of the festival lineup, including “The Apostle” from Gareth Evans (“The Raid“), the Cannes hit “Burning,”  and “The Night Comes for Us” from Timo Tjahjanto. The remaining Fantastic Fest lineup is listed below!
