One of the breakout television hits of 2017 was “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and Amazon couldn’t be happier. Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) loses her husband. The young mother tries out stand up when drunk one night and she brings down the house. As her comedy career takes off, she searches for balance. The series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, the series blends her signature ratatat dialogue with New York in the 1950s. The show became must-watch television and has been rewarded with critical and industry acclaim. With the second season rapidly approaching, Amazon Prime released a new trailer for the series.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” continues to be one of the very best shows on television. Due to it’s proximity to the premiere, the Golden Globes hopped on the train early. They rewarded the series for Best Comedy Series, as well as Brosnahan for Comedy Actress. The Emmys look primed to reward the show as well. The first season picked up 14 Emmy nominations, including a Comedy Series, Brosnahan, Shaloub, and Borstein. Amy Sherman-Paladino even picked up two nominations for directing and writing the pilot.
The teaser showcases some of the fallout from season 1 and that looks juicy. Midge continues to breakthrough as a comic in New York. However, her family and the surrounding characters present challenges beyond her personal life. Her relationship with Joel (Michael Zegan) is likely to be front and center this season again. Her parents (Tony Shaloub & Marin Hinkle) look to have some great comedic moments again. Susie (Alex Borstein) continues to push Midge to the next level. We even get a journey to the Catskills. The show looks like it got a budget boost, and it’s well-earned. They’re going to take advantage by expanding the scope and production quality even further.
