One of the more interesting missteps in the age of the superhero movie remains “Daredevil” from 2003. One of the early precursors to the modern Marvel universe brought Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner together. Affleck may not have been perfect, but there were some interesting pieces for sure. The only actor who seemed to understand what kind of movie he was in was Colin Farrell as Bullseye. The deadeye gunman does not necessarily have a superpower, but his aim is so perfect, he can hit any target. Well, it looks like the Marvel’s Netflix series, “Daredevil,” will bring back one Bullseye, this time to be played by Wilson Bethel.
The new trailer for the Marvel/Netflix show looks like a lot of fun, with Daredevil’s identity co-opted by Bullseye. Bethel looks to bring a renewed energy to the series, something it desperately needs to restart the Daredevil side of things. The 2nd season suffered from Charlie Cox not getting enough to do, slowly dropping off the pathos as it continued. The same energy was missing from “The Defenders,” leaving many cold on the series. Bethel seems to have a fair amount of intensity in his scenes, which could make him a real threat to our titular hero.
While Bethel will likely be a newcomer for most audiences, he’s had a steady career for some time. He was in HBO’s “Generation Kill” in 2008, where he played a soldier in 2003 Baghdad. He’s had some trouble breaking through in a meaningful way, showing up in guest star roles on “How to Get Away with Murder” and other network series. However, if he takes over the new season of “Daredevil” he stands a good chance to make waves in Hollywood.
