On Twitter, Neil Patrick Harris revealed the teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.”

If you have been following up to this point, you’ll know that Lemony Snicket (Patrick Warburton) narrates the sad tale of the Baudelaire orphans in this series based on the novels by David Handler. After their parents die in a fire, Violet (Malina Weissman), Klaus (Louis Hynes), and Sunny (Presley Smith) are sent from one guardian to another. It is truly a series of, well, unfortunate events. Meanwhile, their closest living relative, the dastardly Count Olaf (Harris) and his band of miscreants will stop at nothing to steal the childrens’ inherited fortune.

There were thirteen novels in Handler’s series, and the show gives each novel two episodes. This allows for the story to fully take shape, giving plenty of time to outstanding guest performances from Lucy Punch, Nathan Fillion, Sara Rue, Aasif Mandvi, Alfre Woodard, Catherine O’Hara, Joan Cusack, and many more.

The third season will be the last, as it follows the children from “The Slippery Slope” to “The End.”

Handler’s book series was widely praised for its imaginative blend of steam punk and dystopia. Further, his deft use of language tells a story that is exciting, while also instilling in children a love of words. Barry Sonnenfeld brought the series to Netflix. In addition to running the show, he has directed several episodes, and appeared in cameo.

“A Series of Unfortunate Events” has earned three Emmy nominations. Those nominations came for James Newton Howard’s Dramatic Score, as well as Costume Design and Outstanding Children’s Program.

The complete third and final season will be available on Netflix beginning January 1, 2019.
