Following a successful 2018, prolific actor Taye Diggs will kick off 2019 hosting the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, January 13th at the Banker Hangar in Santa Monica. The event organized by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) will air live on The CW Network.
Last year, Diggs appeared on Netflix’s popular romantic comedy “Set It Up” opposite Zoey Deutch and Pete Davidson. On TV he starred in The CW drama “All American” as coach and mentor to Daniel Ezra’s character. In addition, Diggs took one a role in Season 4 of “Empire,” resulting in some acclaim.
“I am truly honored and ridiculously excited to be hosting the 24th Annual Critics’ Choice Awards, especially since, as an actor, I recognize what a vital role the critics play in the entertainment industry today,” said Diggs about the opportunity. “We are all looking forward to a big night celebrating the best of the best in TV and film!”
As part of the glamorous ceremony, Claire Foy will receive the #SeeHer Award. Foy’s work in “First Man” earned her a nomination in the Best Supporting Actress category. The Critics’ Choice Creative Achievement Award will go to television maestro Chuck Lorre. Lorre helped create many strong comedies including, “The Big Bang Theory,” “Mom,” “Young Sheldon” and “The Kominsky Method” for Netflix. He seems like the perfect candidate to take one of the group’s highest honors. All of his shows also received nominations in a variety of categories.
