Phase One has come to a close. We now know who the Academy Award nominees are. In some cases, we even know with a fair amount of certainty who will be taking home Oscars next month. So, what we want to know today is, which nominee was your favorite citation by the Academy?
Were you thrilled to see someone get their first nomination from the Academy? Could that be Sam Elliott in Best Supporting Actor for “A Star Is Born?” Maybe it was Richard E. Grant in the same category for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” The first-timers weren’t just in Supporting Actor, either. Rami Malek in Best Actor for “Bohemian Rhapsody,” Yalitza Aparicio in Best Actress for “Roma,” Olivia Colman also in Actress for “The Favourite,” Regina King in Best Supporting Actress for “If Beale Street Could Talk,” and so on. Perhaps even Terence Blanchard in Best Original Score for “BlacKkKlansman?” Newcomers to this honor were spread out across the board.
Conversely, was your favorite nominee one of the contenders on the bubble who actually managed to make it in? “Black Panther” making history by cracking the Best Picture lineup? Both Yorgos Lanthimos for “The Favourite” and Pawel Pawlikowski for “Cold War” crashing the Best Director party? Below the line, maybe “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” getting into a few places warmed your heart? For every disappointment or snub, there was an inspired choice to make you smile.
Here you go. It is your time to shine. What was your favorite nominee this year from the Oscar nominations? Let us know!
