With most of the big shows in the throws of their seasons, this Wednesday offers very little in terms of new premieres. There are a few new cable premieres and a notable returning series. This also makes for a great night to return to old favorites or catch up on the latest episodes from your favorite shows. Take a look at what this Wednesday has to offer.

PICK OF THE DAY

“Suits” Season 8 Returns (USA) at 10 p.m. ET.

Season 8 of “Suits,” USA’s hit legal drama returns, minus one royal. Yes, the show that made Meghan Markle no longer features the Princess herself. However, this season marks the first with Katherine Heigl as Samantha Wheeler, the new power player now that Spector Litt has merged with Robert Zane’s original firm. This merger brings lots of new power plays as the central cast of characters angles to be top dog at the firm. The first half of season 8 has always aired; however, the back half of season 8 promises plenty of new dramatic plots. The latest episode airs at 10 p.m. ET on USA.

WHAT’S PREMIERING?

“Knight Fight” (History) at 10 p.m. ET

It’s a literal battle for glory tonight on the History channel. The premiere episode of “Knight Fight” pits six modern day warriors against each other. Each enter into a grand melee where they use their personal weapons to fight each other. Along the way, they adopt various other weapons based around the Vikings and Byzantine empires of the 10th century. The first episode of the show airs at 10 p.m. ET on History Channel.

“Pure” (WGN America) at 10 p.m. ET

WGN America acquired the Canadian crime drama, “Pure.” It plans to air the episode weekly starting with the first episode at 10 p.m. ET tonight. The show takes place in a traditional Mennonite community. One of the pastors stumbles upon a drug trafficking ring during his work with an undercover in a crime network. The show was not originally brought back for a second season. However, last year when WGA America acquired the program, they revealed they would also order a second season for the show as well.

WHAT’S RETURNING?

Syfy’s scripted drama “The Magicians” returns for season 4 at 9 p.m. ET tonight. Based on Lev Grossman’s best selling books, the show takes place at Brakebills University, a specialized school of magic. Our main character, Quentin Coldwater (Jason Ralph), finished last season with his memory wiped and at the clutches of The Monster. Will him and his friends be able to contain the dark forces around them? Tune in to find out!

Movies On TV

One of my favorite movies makes its premiere on the Paramount network. Gary Marshall’s “Pretty Woman” sashays on at 8 p.m. ET. Julia Roberts catapults herself to stardom as Vivian Ward, a Hollywood prostitute. She finds herself in Beverly Hills, employed by business mogul Edward Lewis (Richard Gere), who needs a date with no strings attached. Yet, the two have such sparkling chemistry, it’s impossible for them to resist each other. Sure, the movie seems like a mainstay of cable TV by now. Yet, it’s one of those films that’s impossible to turn off once it begins.
