**Circuit Q&A’s are our daily community question, posed to the readers of AwardsCircuit that cover various topics from film and television to general wonderings and for instances**
Tonight, the Writers Guild of America will be handing out their annual awards during a big gala event. The WGA is one of the final pieces of the Oscar puzzle, so as they reveal their picks, it’s worth considering their impact. For today, what we chiefly want to know is simply, what do you hope the WGA does with their winners?
If you’re looking for Academy Award correlation, WGA matched up three out of five in Original and Four out of five in Adapted. So, there’s a fair chance that who they bestow their honors upon will end up with Oscar victories as well. To that end, if you see “Green Book,” “Roma,” or “Vice” win the WGA prize in Original, watch out, especially if it’s those first two. As for Adapted, anything except “Black Panther,” would correlate. That being said, this feels like a showdown between “BlacKkKlansman” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” with “A Star Is Born” hoping to spoil.
On the other hand, if you want chaos to ensue, you’re going to be pulling hard for “Black Panther” and “A Star Is Born.” Or, you could hope for an upset by “Eighth Grade” or “A Quiet Place.” These outcomes would tell us very little about what the Academy might do. So, if nothing else, perhaps those would inject a little extra fun and/or suspense into the final leg of the race? At this point, it’s as good a way to approach things as any.
Here’s your chance to chime in about the WGA Awards. Which films are you hoping takes the Writers Guild prizes? Let us know!
