Thanks to the success of “Roma,” Netflix finally secured Oscar wins at last night’s ceremony. However, it’s clear they’re showing no signs of slowing down. During commercial break for the big show, an announcement teaser for “The Irishman” from Martin Scorsese was revealed. We may have put the 91st Academy Awards behind us. But Netflix could once again find itself on a strong hunt for Best Picture.

“The Irishman” follows the true story of Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran, a labor union official who had mob connections. The film depicts him recalling his ties to the mob along with his involvement in the slaying of Jimmy Hoffa.

Robert De Niro, who also serves as producer on the film, plays Frank Sheeran while Al Pacino portrays the famed Jimmy Hoffa. Meanwhile, Joe Pesci plays Russell Bufalino, the leader of the crime family Sheeran worked with. This is also Pesci’s first film role since “Love Punch” back in 2010. In addition, the film features Anna Paquin, Ray Romano, Harvey Keitel, Bobby Cannavale, and a slew of others.

The film was previously on our radar for last year’s awards season. But now that the film has been completed, it should still be one to look out for. With Scorsese at the helm and a pedigree cast, “The Irishman” is already one of the strongest contenders on paper for the upcoming Oscar race.

As of right now, the film doesn’t have a release date. However, the teaser confirms that it’ll be released in theaters this fall. After development issues regarding financing and distributing, “The Irishman” finally gets to see the light of day.
