In season two of “Stranger Things,” Finn Wolfhard’s character got to dress as a Ghostbuster for Halloween. Now, he may get to play the real thing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is currently in talks to star in Jason Reitman’s upcoming “Ghostbusters” sequel. And he is not the only actor in the running.

Carrie Coon is reportedly in talks to join the cast as well. The film’s story will apparently involve a single mom and her family. Coon would star as the mom with Wolfhard playing her son. So far, those are the only specific plot details. Reitman established a week ago that the new film will be a continuation of the original storyline. As a result, it won’t be connected to the 2016 reboot by Paul Feig.

This project would add to Finn Wolfhard’s rather nostalgic filmography. He is best known for “Stranger Things” which serves as an homage to ’80s genre fare and will debut its third season this summer. He also had a starring role in “It” and will presumably appear in its sequel, “It: Chapter Two.”

Should Carrie Coon sign on, this would add to her busy lineup on both the big and small screen. Last year, she appeared in “Widows” and “Avengers: Infinity War” where she had small roles. In addition, she recently starred in season two of “The Sinner” and will star in “The Nest” opposite Jude Law.

Jason Reitman is at the film’s helm and has co-written the script with Gil Kenan as well. Meanwhile, Ivan Reitman, the original film’s director and Jason’s father, will serve as a producer.

“Ghostbusters” is set to go into production this summer and is currently slated for release on July 10, 2020.
