Happy birthday to Oscar Isaac! The Awards Circuit favorite is 40 years old today. In less than a decade, Isaac has gone from a bit player to someone almost everyone agrees will be an Academy Award winner. He popped up on some radars with “Drive” but was starring in his own films before long. He’s yet to receive an Oscar nomination, but it will happen. For his birthday, let us know your favorite performance of his. Is there a role that’s particularly wowed you?
For many, one of his best showcases to date has been in “Inside Llewyn Davis” for the Coen Brothers. Mixing top notch acting with some tremendous vocals, he leant pathos, pain, and soul to the musically-tinged period piece. He was Golden Globe nominated, though the Academy left him high and dry, sadly. Isaac previously showed similar skills in the deeply underrated high school reunion movie “10 Years.” It was a hint of what he blew folks away with just a year or so later. Some of you may also be partial to work like “Ex Machina” or “A Most Violent Year,” and that’s okay too.
One below the radar Isaac performance that deserves more love is his work on the HBO limited series “Show Me A Hero.” Though he won a Globe for the part, it remains something too few have seen. On the flip-side, his work in the “Star Wars” franchise with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” have given him the most exposure of his career. Isaac makes a pretty terrific hero too, as we’ve learned.
For his birthday, we want to know about your choice Oscar Isaac roles. What are your favorite performances of his? Let us know!
