When a movie opens as big as “Captain Marvel” did last weekend, it usually keeps the box office crown for at least one more week. Coming off of 2019’s biggest opening by far, “Captain Marvel” looks set to continue posting massive numbers on its way to an impressive box office total. The few new openers are unlikely to stand in its way, but the weekend features something for everyone.

This weekend, “Captain Marvel” will put up numbers that most films would kill for in their opening weekend. The film has been tracking closely with “The Hunger Games,” so look for a drop of around 55%. That means it will still approach $70M and finish head and shoulders above everything else at the box office this weekend.

Paramount’s “Wonder Park” is likely to finish in second. The animated feature opens in over 3,800 theaters and is expected to debut around $13M. It will be competing with “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” which will look to continue its impressive run with another top five finish this weekend.

Lionsgate’s “Five Feet Apart‘ will likely finish in third place this weekend with around $10M. It is tracking just behind “Love, Simon,” which opened with around $12M last year.

In what will likely be its last weekend in the top five, “Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral” will likely finish with around $6M. That would put it just short of $60M by the weekend. The film is already yet another financial success for Perry and Lionsgate.

The only other new entrants in the top ten will be “Captive State” and “No Manches Frida 2.”

Despite opening in over 2,500 theaters, “Captive State” looks set for a relatively soft opening. The film is expected to do around $5M in business. With a budget of $25M, the studio will no doubt be hoping for long legs and healthy overseas business to make up for the lackluster start.

No Manches Frida 2” will likely finish in the same ballpark, but doing so at just 472 theaters is much more impressive.

The rest of the top ten will be populated by familiar faces on their way out of the top ten, including “Green Book” and “Alita: Battle Angel.”
