Today we get some new crime fighters in the television ring. Check out “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” to get your superhero kick for the night. If you want to watch a crime fighting blind woman and her seeing eye dog, “In the Dark” is for you. We’ve also picked “Black Swan,” “The Prestige” and “Lone Survivor” as our movie picks for the evening.

Pick of the Day

Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger (Freeform) 8 PM & 9 PM

While Marvel and Netflix may have parted ways, there are other television shows coming from the Comics Studio. One such show returns tonight with a double episode. “Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger” follows a pair young teenagers who are not just romantically involved, but also date. If you thought your love life was complicated as a teen, imagine being if your girlfriend could shoot light daggers. What if your boyfriend could transport you through something known as the “Darkforce” dimension? The two characters took on a cult status in the MCU, and jump into a new season of adventures.

What’s Premiering?

“In The Dark” (CW) at 9 PM

As the CW braces to lose some of its most popular shows in “Jane the Virgin” and “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” it needs to find replacements fast. Now it will take a chance on the story of a woman, Murphy, trying to find her friend’s killer. The catch? Murphy is blind and uses her guide dog to help find the killer. For what it’s worth, the guide dog’s name is Pretzel. While the idea of expanding their lineup to include a story about a blind protagonist, the show seems to stumble at times in its delivery. Perhaps casting a blind actress would have added to the realism. The showrunners didn’t find a strong match for the role, and Perry Mattfeld (“Shameless”) tries her best in the role. With producers Ben Stiller and Michael Showalter, there is intriguing talent behind the camera.

Movies on TV

Black Swan” (Cinemax) at 8 PM

If you want visions of Natalie Portman to haunt your dreams look no further. The actress won her Oscar for the portrayal of a woman slowly losing her mind after becoming the ingenue of the ballet. Darren Aronofsky also picked up a nomination for Best Director, and the film received five total nominations, including Best Picture.

“Lone Survivor” (FXM) at 8:25 PM

What might be Peter Berg‘s film this decade, “Lone Survivor” tells the story of Operation Red Wings, which led to the deaths of 12 Navy Seals. While the film was full of recognizable actors, including Mark WahlbergBen FosterTaylor Kitsch, and Emile Hirsch, none received recognition from major critics groups. However, it picked up two sound nominations at the Oscars and made $154 million at the box office.

“The Prestige” (HBO Gems) at 9 PM

Christopher Nolan would not be taken seriously as an Oscar-contending director until “Dunkirk” in 2017. However, his 2006 film, “The Prestige” found success with the Academy in the tech categories years earlier. The magic-based film would earn Wally Pfister his second cinematography nomination, and Nathan Crowley his first of five for Production design. Nolan locked in some long-term relationships with this one.
