Cannes: Elton John Biopic ‘Rocketman’ Set for World Premiere in France

Paramount Pictures‘ Elton John biopic “Rocketman” is having its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival May 16.

As reported on Variety, the Dexter Fletcher-directed film will be taking a slot at the festival. Fletcher took over the directing helm from Bryan Singer on the fellow biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” He returns to direct a much more graceful production and star Taron Egerton is there to light up the stage by his side. Egerton, whose past credits include “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” “Sing,” and “Robin Hood,” feels lived in as the iconic musician.

The story follows Elton John before he was Elton John, dating back to his early years at the Royal Academy of Music, and his trip to stardom. As musically gifted as John grew to be, Egerton has a few things going for himself. The actor has shown he’s capable of singing, a feat “Bohemian Rhapsody” failed to convey. With stunning imagery and remarkably edited trailers, “Rocketman” is shaping up to be an anticipated player.

From the article,

“We are incredibly honoured and excited to premiere our movie “Rocketman” at the Cannes Film Festival on May 16th. This has been a labour of love for all of us and we couldn’t dream of a better launching pad for this very film,” said Rocket Pictures and Marv Films in a statement.
