Did the surprise inclusion of "Il Divo" mean anything?

The Nominees: Il Divo, Aldo Signoretti & Vittorio Sodano Star Trek, Barney Burman, Mindy Hall, & Joel Harlow The Young Victoria, Jon Henry Gordon & Jenny Shircore
Presumptive favorite to win – Star Trek Spoiler – The Young Victoria Biggest surprise – Il Divo Snub(s): District 9
The Makeup race is notoriously tough to predict, and usually ignored by most prognosticators (made up fact). It’s also one of the categories designated as the “bathroom break”. However, for those 10 of you who are fanatical over the makeup race, I’ll take this time to give proper due to Il Divo (a non sequitur). If you have not seen this movie, then make it your number one priority right after watching Avatar for the tenth time. It came out a year before, and was completely ignored by the Academy. I guess they felt kind of awful, and decided to reward it with a Makeup nod. Actually, that’s not much of a reward, but it gives me the opportunity to ramble on the greatness of the film. The direction and acting distinguish this film from many of the current nominees. I can’t go in to detail, but it’s a spectacle, and I strongly recommend.
As for the makeup race, I have no idea who is going to win. Everyone on the site is going with Star Trek, and as a militant follower, I’m obliged to listen to the chorus. I’m surprised by the District 9 snub. I thought the makeup was probably the most important part of the film behind the acting, script, direction, special effects, stunts, and Nigerians.
Star Trek had decent makeup, but it doesn’t take much makeup to make Zoe Saldana look gorgeous (that’s all natural). I feel asleep midway through the Young Victoria, but from what I saw, it looked exactly those other films about English monarchies. Star Trek wins this in a landslide. Or not. If it helps, last year’s winner was the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which is nothing like any of the current nominees. Just go with Star Trek, and if you’re wrong, blame Clayton.
