FOR HIM: One of the overdue directors of modern cinema. Will they wanna throw him one?
FOR HIM: He's the Academy's golden boy. Many prior nominations and wins.
FOR HIM: After being snubbed big time for The Dark Knight, critics and audiences will be keeping a close eye on him this year.
FOR HIM: There's always a newcomer in the bunch. Taking on a big drama with big actors, may shine some light.

Your guess is as good as mine. Terrence Malick is an overdue director who many bow down to. Could Malick finally get his Oscar? It'd be really cool to see Nolan get one too.

FOR HIM: This is an ambitious take for Russell. Some say he missed for I Heart Huckabees and Three Kings. Could he finally get some notice?
FOR HIM: He's a legend. It's one of his best works in years. His win for The Departed, as embraced by all, should not be his only one. He's the type of director many would not hesitate to give Oscar #2.
FOR HIM: It's a wild guess. He's responsible for the Oscar nominated Capture the Freidmans. Maybe this switch over to production features may work.
FOR HIM: Writer/Director of the Independent film, Nine Lives. Critics have praised the film out of festivals. Could he surprise?
FOR HIM: Audiences have been anticipating this work for a long time. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas has become a cult classic.
AGAINST HIM: Russell isn't consistent enough. The film may be too big for him.
AGAINST HIM: Early release date. His film received good, not great reviews. That may not carry him for the year.
AGAINST HIM: It'll be his first time out, we will be watching closely.
AGAINST HIM: Relatively unknown. Might be about Annette Bening and that's it.
AGAINST HIM: It took some time for Fear & Loathing to grow on some.
