  • I will be livid if Whiplash in fact misses here

  • Luke McGowan

    1. Silence
    2. La La Land
    3. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk
    4. The Birth of a Nation
    5. Loving

    6. Fences
    7. Rogue One
    8. Arrival
    9. Sully
    10. The Promise

  • Iso Ns

Loving seems very odd player for film editing to me. Based on the nature of the film I can see noms to all big categories apart from editing.
    Billy Lynn’s is my no1.

  • A war movie frontrunner without an Editing nod? As if.

  • Trevor Pacelli

A little early for most of these, but doesn’t hurt:

    1. Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk
    2. La La Land
    3. Silence
    4. Passengers
    5. Deadpool (Seriously, watch it again. It’s edited by the same guy who did “District 9,” and his techniques of laying out the plot are surprisingly top-notch for a comic book movie)

  • Stein-Erik Rutledal

You think there’s any chance OJ Made in America will make it? It’s a monstrous achievement in editing. LAFCA recognized it.

  • Bryce

    Arrival
    Hacksaw Ridge
    La La Land
    Manchester by the Sea
    Moonlight

    This goes to Moonlight.

  • Deadpool just tied with La La Land for best edited comedy at the Editor’s Guild Awards, so I say it’s a lock in this category.

    1. La La Land
    2. Hacksaw Ridge
    3. Moonlight
    4. Deadpool
    5. Silence

    6. Arrival
    7. Hell or High Water
    8. Sully
    9. Lion
    10. Fences

Here are my predictions for Best Film Editing at the moment:
    Arrival (Joe Walker)
    Hacksaw Ridge (John Gilbert)
    La La Land (Tom Cross)
Manchester by the Sea (Jennifer Lame)
    Moonlight (Joi McMillon, Nat Sanders)

    Top choice: La La Land

  • Jacques

Arrival is really the only movie that I thought the film editing was outstanding, it was just done tremendously and definitely deserves at least a nom. Otherwise, I say La La Land is the next best

    • AyeAye

I agree fully. Arrival’s editing was magnificent (so was its cinematography) and I’d be really angry if it misses out here.

      • Jacques

Yes! Bradford Young did an incredible job of making this film gorgeous. Villeneuve always makes sure that his cinematographer is on top of things. If Arrival doesn’t win cinematography, my bet is that it will go to La La Land or Silence. Although I haven’t seen Moonlight yet, which also apparently was beautiful

        • AyeAye

I’ve seen Arrival, La La Land and Moonlight and they do have beautiful cinematography. Although I still believe Arrival should win. I haven’t seen Silence yet (I haven’t had the time yet).

    • I have thought about it more, and I would have to agree that Arrival really did have thoughtful editing. Overall, this was not a good year for this category, so I would have to say that La La Land is the clear winner here.

    Manchester by the sea
    Moonlight

    Winner: Arrival

La La Land wins here, too. Arrival and Moonlight have good shots at an upset though.
