OSCAR PREDICTIONS: Best Sound Mixing

Updated: February 9, 2018

AND THE PREDICTED NOMINEES ARE

1

Gregg Landaker, Gary Rizzo, Mark Weingarten
“Dunkirk” (Warner Bros.)

PROS:
Nolan's films have always found love in the Sound department even when people were critical of the work (i.e. "Interstellar").
CONS:
For the nomination, nothing at the moment. It all depends if they remember it.

2

Tim Cavagin, Julian Slater
“Baby Driver ” (TriStar Pictures)

PROS:
A film where music is a heavy component which is a favorite in this category.
CONS:
It's not a "musical" in the traditional sense which is what this category leans towards.

3

Christian T. Cooke, Filip Hosek, Brad Zoern
“The Shape of Water” (Fox Searchlight Pictures)

PROS:
This team has worked on TV's "Hatfields & McCoys," "A History of Violence," and "Eastern Promises." It's also close to the "musical" type that this category loves to reward.
CONS:
Competitive race. War and action films do better.

4

Ron Bartlett, Doug Hemphill, Mac Ruth
“Blade Runner 2049” (Warner Bros.)

PROS:
Big team with sure to be non-stop action.
CONS:
Bad sound mixing is noticeable. It just needs to serve its viewers well.

5

David Parker, Michael Semanchick
“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” (Walt Disney Pictures)

PROS:
No data found.
CONS:
No data found.
