gatsby_bannerAs the summer blockbuster season gets ready to get underway, studios and their marketing teams are hard at work making sure their films are getting the proper push.  On the awards front, Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming 3D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire.  While the film has its vocal doubters out there, there’s no denying the film will likely not be a visual splendor.

Following up from the semi-successful Kick-Ass (2010), Aaron Johnson, Chloe-Grace Moretz, and Jim Carrey are focal points on their posters for upcoming Kick-Ass 2.  Christopher Mintz-Plasse also has his new villain name for all to see that contains profanity.  (Disclaimer for our younger readers)

Also, down below are new posters for the Tom Cruise film Oblivion, CBS Films’ newest coming-of-age picture, The Kings of Summer with Alison Brie and Nick Offerman from NBC’s “Community.”  You’ll also see images for the upcoming indie Sightseers, the supposed finale for The Hangover Part III, the new horror film Mr. Jones, and the teaser poster for Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters with the talented Logan Lerman.

We all love and root for Julianne Moore to finally win her inevitable Oscar, but no one has supported her chances for The English Teacher anywhere near as much as our very own editor, Clayton Davis. For the last few years he has anxiously awaited the release of this film, and now, finally, on May 17 it will open in theaters. Before that, it will be On Demand on April 16 and premiere in theaters at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 26. While this might not end up being the vehicle to get Ms. Moore her first Oscar, there should be a shout out to Clayton in her speech for his support when she finally does win. Have a look at the poster for The English Teacher - which also stars Greg Kinnear and Nathan Lane – after the jump.

Zal Batmanglij’s ‘The East’ gets new Poster and Trailer

Brit Marling, Alexander Skarsgaard, and Ellen Page are front and center...

    March 15, 2013

TheEast_BannerThe Sundance Film Festival had an electic group of films this past year.  One of them was Zal Batmanglij’s The East starring Brit Marling, who was fantastic in last year’s Arbitrage (2012), Alexander Skarsgaard, who remains one of the last redeemable things about HBO’s “True Blood” and Academy Award nominee Ellen Page.

Batmanglij, who was responsible for directing his debut Sound of my Voice (2012), teams up with co-writer Marling to bring this seemingly mysterious and thrilling film to audiences this summer.  The synopsis is as follows via Fox Searchlight:

In THE EAST, Sarah Moss (Marling) is a brilliant operative for an elite private intelligence firm whose top objective is to ruthlessly protect the interests of their A-list corporate clientele.  She is assigned to go undercover to infiltrate an anarchist collective known for executing covert attacks upon major corporations. Living amongst them in an effort to get closer to their members, Sarah finds herself unexpectedly torn between two worlds as she starts to fall in love with the group’s charismatic leader (Skarsgard), finding her life and her priorities irrevocably changed.

Logan Hill of IndieWire had this to say from seeing it at Sundance:

“Suspenseful, ludicrous, fascinating, and utterly unsubtle, Zal Batmanglij’s “The East” plays like an unholy mash-up of “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and “Alias.” The film builds on the themes of cult and identity that Batmanglij and his star Brit Marling explored artfully in their breakout debut “The Sound of My Voice.” But here, that psychology is in service of a fast-paced espionage potboiler.”

The full poster is below along with the film’s trailer and link to the film’s website.  The film opens in theaters May 31, 2013 and is being distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Read more on Zal Batmanglij’s ‘The East’ gets new Poster and Trailer…

ZERO_CHARISMA_FINAL_PREVIEWAs Terence gears up for SXSW this weekend, small, “little films that could” start attempting to build momentum for themselves for a wide release and possibly some awards attention.   Katie Graham and Andrew Matthew’s newest film Zero Charisma will have a screening at the South By Southwest Festival that takes place in Austin.

Guilty reason, I’m a little excited for this because Katie Graham was the Cinematographer on Best Worst Movie (2009), the documentary that covered the cast and filmmakers of Troll 2 (1990), one of the worst films ever created.  Admittedly, I am a huge fan of the cult that follows the 1990 spoof sequel that has nothing to do with its predecessor.  I have to be a little excited for anything that circles six degrees of the cult classic.

The trailer is below with the synopsis. Read more on Trailer and Poster for ‘Zero Charisma’…
