Once upon a time, I remember enjoying the original Anchorman and finding it pretty quotable, but also not exactly getting why it was so beloved. Apparently, I’m in the minority since many folks seem to be hotly anticipating this sequel. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues just got a new Teaser Trailer, and it’s definitely catering to fans of the original. You can see it after the jump, and I’m sure those of you who can’t wait will be more than pleased. I’m sure I’ll like this one just fine, but I can’t say I’m awaiting it with baited breath . Check it out below.

Anyone who’s a fan of Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz has likely been looking forward to The World’s End for some time now. The third and presumably final part of a loose series of films that Edgar Wright has been making with Simon Pegg, this one seems to be more of a satirizing of alien invasion/disaster movie trends, as you can see in this Teaser Trailer that recently hit. Pegg and Wright worked together on the script, with Pegg and Nick Frost again in major roles, alongside plenty of new faces. It seems about what you’d expect, and while I’m bigger on Shaun than Fuzz, I’m certainly looking forward to it. Take a gander below and see for yourself…

A film that is already on Oscar’s radar before it even opens is Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station starring Michael B. Jordan and Octavia Spencer. Terence gave positive feedback about the film out of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. While the buzz is high for the film’s chances during awards season, this is one of many films the Weinstein Company has on their plate in 2013. Other notable acquired films include August: Osage County, which had a trailer released recently, Lee Daniels’ The Butler, and the Grace Kelly biopic, Grace of Monaco with Nicole Kidman. The film won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award back in January.
The first trailer has dropped exclusively from Yahoo! and it features what is sure to be a tension filled film full of emotion. Displayed prominently in the trailer is the talented and beautiful Melonie Diaz, an actress that garnered my attention in Dito Montiel’s classic film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006). Michael B. Jordan, best known for his performance as Steve Montgomery in Chronicle (2012) has taken the lion’s share of citations from critics that have seen it. If he is as good as many say he is, perhaps the summer release will give him enough time to gain momentum until the Oscar nominations. Very early to tell but if I had a guess, I think he may result in the same manner of Derek Luke when he wowed critics, quietly I might add, for his performance in Phillip Noyce’s Catch a Fire (2006). Nevertheless, I’m on board for the film and can’t wait to see it.

August: Osage County is one of the most anticipated films of the Oscar season given it’s ensemble cast led by Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts and award winning pedigree (it won the Tony and the Pulitzer Prize). Today on GMA, the Weinstein Company debuted the trailer giving everyone the first look at the material since the test screening held in March. The trailer, while establishing all of the main players, is a more subtle affair, choosing to not play up the acidic wit of Lett’s writing or the really big confrontations, although you do get a glimpse of the dinner scene. Check it out after the jump!

For many readers of The Awards Circuit (as well as staff members, I might add), few films are as highly anticipated as this one here. Gravity is the newest film from Alfonso Cuaron and has promised to blow minds and perhaps be the science fiction Oscar player of 2013. Well, the Trailer has hit and…honestly, I’m rather disappointed. Neither Sandra Bullock nor George Clooney showed me too much, and while it looks very strong from a visual standpoint, I can’t help but feel like there should be more to this one. Maybe I’m just on the road towards being surprised, but personally I’m lowering my expectations. Take a look below and then decide for yourself…

Very few people seem to be as bullish on the Oscar chances of Captain Phillips like I am, but I’ve been pretty consistent in thinking that Paul Greengrass and Tom Hanks could potentially knock this one out of the park. Well, a Trailer has just dropped and it looks like they’ve done just that. Could this turn out to be 2013′s version of Zero Dark Thirty? It’s certainly possible, though we’ll need more than just a two minute look, of course (and there’s no Catherine Keener on hand to judge). So far, I think this looks pretty riveting and I’m digging it. After the jump you can take a gander for yourself. Should others be making room for this flick in their Best Picture predictions? Decide below.

One of the big mysteries of this awards pre-season will be whether or not Lee Daniels latest effort, The Butler, will be an Oscar player or not. Following his Academy Award nominated film, Precious, in 2009, many were excited to see what he would do next. Unfortunately, that was The Paperboy. But there are very few directors without an asterisk somewhere in their filmography (Spielberg’s The Terminal anyone?), so it would be foolish to think Daniels couldn’t rebound with The Butler. Especially with The Weinsteins distributing the film.

Based on the best-selling Orson Scott Card novel, Ender’s Game looks like it will be one of the great cinematic experiences of 2013. The cast includes Hugo’s Asa Butterfield and True Grit’s Hailee Steinfeld, along with Ben Kingsley, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin and Harrison Ford. Ender’s Game tells the story of the aftermath of an alien invasion, where the survivors of the human race turn to a gifted child to lead them against future invasions. Up until now, there’s been less out there on Guillermo del Toro’s “giant robots vs giant monsters” movie Pacific Rim than you’d expect, but it’s easily one of the more highly anticipated films of 2013. A brand new Trailer has just hit, and it should only increase interest. I’ve always been on the fence to some degree, but now I’m solidly on board. After the jump you can take a gander at the flick, which seems to promise a great summer movie experience. At the very least, it’s going to deliver on its promise of monsters and robots duking it out. Check out why humanity is canceling the apocalypse below. Anticipating certain films, Kar Wai Wong’s film The Grandmaster has been near the top for two years now. Being distributed by the Weinstein Company, this upcoming film tells the story of Ip Man, the martial artist that trained Bruce Lee. Thanks to Sasha Stone for pointing uploading, the film has just released a teaser trailer. I can only hope its as good as I think it can be in my head. It looks stylistically brilliant.
The film stars Tony Leung and Ziyi Zhang and is co-written by Kar Wai Wong, Haofeng Xu, and Jingzhi Zou. The Grandmaster is scheduled to be released August 23, 2013.

It’s time for all of us film lovers to expand our horizons to films that are outside our normalcy. We encourage independent filmmakers to push the medium regularly but we have to attempt to seek some of these films out on a regular basis. With digital streaming in full force nowadays, it allows the opportunity to see some of these films that usually aren’t playing at a theater near you.
The Tribeca Film Festival is celebrating many independent cinema including foreign films and documentaries. A documentary that looks incredibly interesting is Lenny Cooke. Telling the story of a high school basketball player that was destined to become the next great sports legend, nearly twelve years later, he hasn’t played a second of professional basketball. The big question is why? If you love sports, especially basketball, this may tickle your fancy. The full synopsis is down below along with the trailer.
The film is directed by Josh and Benny Safdie and is produced by Adam Shopkorn.
Check it out if you can.

I was a big fan of the initial Trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel, but it certainly didn’t show us too much of the movie, only a feel for what type of emotions it would be going for. That’s largely remained the case, but with the film getting closer to a release date, a new Trailer has emerged, and it’s managed to mesh those artier ambitions with some actual footage from the movie that shows us Superman in action. Besides more of star Henry Cavill, we also get to see Michael Shannon as General Zod, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Pa Kent, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El. I liked what I saw a bit, and it definitely had a Christopher Nolan-ish vibe to it. It’s also the rare trailer that’s over three minutes long these days. You can judge for yourself below. Is it just me, or have the folks behind the marketing of Star Trek Into Darkness been keeping us in the dark (no pun intended) a bit more than necessary? I know there’s been months of debate/mystery about whether or not anyone in this film happens to be named Khan, but lost in the shuffle has been much in the way of new looks at the flick. Well, that just changed, as we get some pretty juicy stuff here in this new trailer for the film. I like what I’m seeing, and if perhaps this won’t be quite as surprisingly good as the last installment, it does appear to be something very satisfying. Take a look below.

If nothing else, Baz Luhrman’s The Great Gatsby is going for opulence in extremes and if the movie fails it won’t be because of his lack in trying to entertain and wow the audience. As evidence in the final trailer for the film released today via NewNowNext, it looks like Gatsby will either be a blinding hot mess or a sumptuous thrill. A soundtrack sampler also arrived online today featuring artists like Jay-Z, Fergie (whose song is attached to the new trailer), Florence + The Machine, Gotye, Lana Del Rey and Jack White among others. Check out the extravagance after the jump! Read more on Final Trailer for ‘Great Gatsby’ and Sample Soundtrack…
It’s safe to say that after the first Hunger Games film racked up a near $700 million box office haul, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire would be one of the most anticipated films of the year. During the MTV Movie Awards Lionsgate debuted the trailer for the film which is set to arrive in theaters in November 22. Catching Fire continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem. As Katniss and Peeta embark on their Victors Tour they begin to sense that a rebellion is coming, but the Capitolis still in control and preparing the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever. Check it out after the jump!

It’s no secret that I’m not wild about “The Hangover” films. The first one was an amusing but overrated diversion to me, and I really disliked the sequel intensely. Chief among my issues with that one was that it simply rehashed every moment of the first flick, to diminishing returns. This time around though for The Hangover Part III, Todd Phillips at least seems intent on mixing it up a little bit. This recent trailer for the film suggests some new developments and a slightly different adventure for the cast. I wouldn’t say that I’m hopefully about this one, but I’m at least not dreading it to the same degree. Take a gander below and see what you think…

The new trailer dropped for the new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet starring Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth. Encompassing an all-star cast that includes Damien Lewis of Showtime’s hit-show “Homeland,” Oscar-nominee Paul Giamatti, and Lesley Manville, the film looks to be an interesting mix of star and scenery.
Guy Lodge of Hit Fix reported yesterday that the talented Steinfeld has joined Tommy Lee Jones’ next directorial effort, The Homesman in which he stars along with John Lithgow, Meryl Streep, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Hilary Swank, and an array of celebrity actors. After her nomination for The Coen Brothers’ True Grit (2010) in which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, the beautiful, young up-and-comer hasn’t been capitalizing on her success until now. According to her IMDb page, she is scheduled for six films to drop this year including Romeo and Juliet and The Homesman. You can pretty much jot this one down as one of my most anticipated films this year. The trailer for Neil Blomkamp’s sophomore effort, Elysium, has dropped, and it looks terrific. Is it just me or does it have kind of a District 9 meets The Matrix vibe going on? Either way, sign me up. We saw the poster earlier today, after the jump have a look at the trailer. Elysium stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, and is due out August 9.
