Mark drops some serious knowledge on this week's "Did You Know?"

We reflect on the opening of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby. What did our staff members think of the film and what do we think of its Oscar chances and its lead Leonardo DiCaprio.

It was the week of canceling television shows and we discuss the possible Emmy Contenders in both Drama and Comedy categories. What are your favorite shows on television at the moment? Discuss with us.

Finally, we talk about the Oscar contenders that have already emerged. Is Sarah Polley's Stories We Tell the first contender or does Derek Cianfance's The Place Beyond the Pines still have a fighting chance?

Listen and enjoy!</itunes:summary>

With Zach Braff utilizing Kickstarter to fund his next directorial project, the staff and I discuss if it is right for someone with access to celebrities to use a crowd-funding source like Kickstarter.

The Tribeca Film Festival as well as the Montclair Film Festival have ended. We talk about some of our favorite films that played and if any of them have any Oscar chances.

Summer is upon us and a lot of blockbusters and indies are gearing up for their debuts. The staff each pick two choices for their most anticipated films. Also, Mark Johnson goes over the summer schedule.

We play "The Producer Game" and adapting or remaking a science fiction/horror film. Which film would you remake if you could?

Finally, the ballots are in! I announce the winners of the Awards Circuit Community Awards for 1999. Did American Beauty keep its crown or did David Fincher's Fight Club, the most nominated film, perform a clean sweep? Listen!

<itunes:summary>Awards Circuit Power Hour is up and alive again this week with a jammed-packed agenda for all of your listening pleasures. A lot of great stuff to talk about from the past week:

The Cannes Film Festival announced their lineup and we dive into the very "American" centric choices they have decided to include in their slate this May. Are there any contenders that can potentially come out of the festival?

It seemed to be the week of the name changes. Ryan Coogler's "Fruitvale" became Fruitvale Station, James Gray's "Lowlife" became The Immigrant, and the untitled upcoming film from David O. Russell is now called American Hustle. Do these do anything for their films?

Awards Profiles are talked about from the week including American Hustle, Pixar's Monster's University, Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Denis Villenneuve's Prisoners, and Ned Benson's The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His and Hers. There are pros and cons for all with some very visible obstacles ahead.

Tribeca Film Festival is still underway with some talk about Scott Coffey's Adult World with Emma Roberts, the slowly-paced Bluebird with Amy Morton, and Phil Morrison's Almost Christmas with Paul Giamatti.

Craig Zadan and Neil Meron were announced as Oscar's producers once again which leads to our suggestions for the next great Oscar host.

Many trailers hit this week including Man of Steel, The Great Gatsby, and Star Trek: Into Darkness. Many sequels are hitting between now and 2015. Has Hollywood lost their touch and are these sequels necessary?

Finally, we announce your Awards Circuit Community Award nominations for Year 1999. There's a film that leads with twelve nominations, perhaps you can guess which one? Also, the writers talk about some films from the year that we still "do not get."

Listen and enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Awards Circuit Power Hour is back this week with a great in-depth talk about some of the highlights of the past week.

We kick off the podcast talking about the new trailer for Romeo and Juliet. Is it a story that needs to be told...again? Also, Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfield has a terrific year ahead of her including a role in Tommy Lee Jones' next directorial effort. Is there wiggle room for her to make a second showing with Oscar so soon?

Awards Profiles are in full effect again and we talk about some of them from the past week:

Akiva Goldsman directorial effort, Winter's Tale doesn't have much faith from the staff and it leads us to talk about the state of star Will Smith's career. What is he doing wrong and what can he do right again to get in good graces with AMPAS voters?

The Weinstein Company is handling Lee Daniels' next film The Butler with Forest Whitaker. Some of the staff remains doubtful with some miscast issues but it remains a viable contender if it hits the right chords throughout the season.

ACCA 1999 is going on and we talk about some of the great and forgotten gems of the year. What films do we remember fondly? Remember to vote.

We're hoping for the return of Tom Hanks this year as he is starring in Paul Greengrass' Captain Phillips. We talk about how he owned the 90s, probably taking John Travolta's only shot for an Oscar, and how he should have three or four Oscars by this time in his career.

We keep coming back to the highly anticipated Gravity from Alfonso Cuaron. Awards Circuit reader Dan asks a great question about the science fiction genre and what it will take for Oscar to truly notice. It gets us talking. We also touch on the search for its female lead from Angelina Jolie to Olivia Wilde.

We end on a high note, talking about our childhood, which was touched on in last week's Childhood Circuit. What films were great to you as a kid, that otherwise, is terrible to a normal adult?

Listen and discuss! Enjoy! Include your thoughts in the comment section.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The Awards Circuit Power Hour team is back this week with a fun-filled agenda. We start the podcast on a somber note and speak about the passing of the film critic, Roger Ebert at the age of 70. What did he mean to the staff? We also look at his number #1 films of the year and what kind of taste the great critic had for films.

The final two of Circuit Madness came and went. Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List faced off against Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather. One of them is about to be named the "Best" Best Picture Winner of All-Time! Which one will it be? You have to listen to find out.

Trailer Talk is up next and we speak about the stylistic promises of Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives with Ryan Gosling and Kristin Scott Thomas. Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby gets a similar conversation but with less enthusiasm. What are some problems we see for the upcoming adaptation are also discussed. Finally, the less than stellar trailer for the upcoming remake of Carrie with Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore has almost no faith in most of the writing staff.

We play an exciting horror edition of "Do, Dump, or Marry?" - Terence brings up quite a bit from the The Omen to having the staff choose between the scream queens of cinema. What would you do?

The MTV Movie Awards are airing LIVE this Sunday and is being hosted by Rebel Wilson, star and nominee of Pitch Perfect (2012). We go over their "better-than-usual" slate of nominees and try to discuss who and what will win at the ceremony.

It's not the Awards Circuit Power Hour without Oscar talk. Last week, we spoke about high-profile writers that have something to deliver this year. This time around, the directors are our focus. Going down the line from Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity to Richard Linklater for Before Midnight, even an outside shot for a documentary director like Sarah Polley for Stories We Tell is toyed with.

Terence makes a new plea to Hollywood in this week's edition of Stop! Making It Happen and it circles around NBC's newest show "Hannibal."

Finally, ACCA 1999 is almost set to begin this week and we discuss Year 1999 and what it had to offer as well as playing "Give Them an Oscar."

Enjoy and discuss! Thanks for listening.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Awards Circuit Power Hour is full of speculation this week. We're talking about dozens of possible Oscar contenders this year and asking that fateful question, will they ever win an Oscar?

We reveal the results of Circuit Madness, the quest to find the "Best" Best Picture winner of all-time. Did your favorite move forward? Listen in to see.

We give a lowdown of the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival where Richard Linklater's Before Midnight will be playing along Prince Avalanche and the upcoming documentary about Oscar-nominee Michael Haneke called Michael H - Profession: Director.

We play "Give Them an Oscar" and with subjects like Sam Rockwell and Jessica Alba, the choices are very different.

A big focus of this podcast is placed on our possible Original Screenplay contenders and with heavy hitters like Woody Allen, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, and Jim Jarmusch all making a bid this year, we could have a strong lineup coming down the line. John Carney has an upcoming film with Keira Knightley titled Can a Song Save Your Life? and some think I might be overestimating its potential. There are even some on staff that believe Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity may be a bit "too sci-fi" for the Academy's liking. I disagree. Listen to see if you do too.

We also introduce a new game that gives you the power of Harvey Weinstein.

Listen to the podcast and make sure to comment on the topics you find interesting. Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>The Awards Circuit Power Hour is back this week and we get into an interesting discussion about a few things.

Terence is back from SXSW Festival where he saw a slew of films including At Any Price and Evil Dead, which he goes on a rave about. He also talks about his favorite films seen at the film festival.

It was announced that The Great Gatsby will be opening the Cannes Film Festival. What does this mean for Baz Luhrmann and the Leonardo DiCaprio driven vehicle? It was pushed back from last year; does Warner Brothers believe in their 3D drama project? Is the early release date telling about the studios faith in the project?

Terence attended a MPAA panel during SXSW, where they discuss the rules and policies set forth by the controversial institution. The writers and I discuss our gripes and agreements with the ratings including the controversial NC-17 and bringing children to them.

Circuit Madness (formerly called "Oscar Madness") is in full swing beginning today. After hundreds of votes that poured in, the four highest vote-getters of "bottom" 25 Best Picture winners were decided. We announce them on the podcast. Over the next three days, we will have the games going on between different films, 32 games in total. If you go here, games from the HOPE region are competing. You can also download the full tournament bracket here Oscar_Madness_Full.

What's a Power Hour podcast without Oscar talk? We talk about some of the Awards Profiles we've uncovered thus far like Ridley Scott's The Counselor, Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, and George Clooney's The Monuments Men. We also expand a bit on my Oscar Circuit piece, talking about the inequalities and shafts of minority performers and filmmakers within the Academy.

Have thoughts about the episode and discussions? Let us know in the comments!</itunes:summary>
