  • Mark Falzone

This page doesn’t reflect the front page of 2015 predictions. Thanks!

  • Connor

When are you going to update those predictions?

  • Loli

    Update please!!!

  • Loli

  • What about Beating Heart from Divergent? #wishfulthinking

  • What about Beating Heart from Divergent? #wishfulthinking

  • Luke McGowan

This is actually pathetic. This hasn’t been updated since January. That’s 7 months.

  • Luke McGowan

Try Everything – lock it in. Love that song, infuriating as it is.

  • Futileinstit

John Legend song for South side with You

  • Tyler

Where’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and “Just Like Fire”?

  • Bob

I would love “Drive It Like You Stole It” to be nominated.

  • Iram Borjón Cabrera

What about Keane’s “Tear up this town” from A Monster Calls?

  • Petko Kolev

What about ”Wish That You Were Here” from Tim Burton’s ”Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”?

    • BTS

      YES! love that song!

  • There’s only One Gullden

Lol, Sia is so overlooked. Her songs in “Finding Dory” and “The Neon Demon” could get nominated easily.

    • Daniel Chedgzoy

I know “Unforgettable” from “Finding Dory” isn’t eligible because it’s a cover, AC even had Finding Dory down for Original song until it was anounced it’d be a cover. Not sure about the other film, but I’ll have to listen to it. I do agree though, sia is overlooked.

      • There’s only One Gullden

My bad, didn’t know about “Unforgettable” being a cover. The one from “The Neon Demon” is called “Waving Goodbye” and it’s an original song. It definitely deserves a mention.

  • Jonathan

It’s actually titled “I See a Victory”, not “Victory”

  • Buzz

“Can’t stop the feeling” will get nominated for sure.

  • Tyler

Still don’t know why “Just Like Fire” isn’t even in the Unranked Contenders category. That song was a big hit.

  • Chucho E. Quintero

Real question, AC: what does it take for the Best Song Score category to open? Wouldn’t it be best to have that category so that “Sing Street”, “La La Land” and “Popstar” (and even “The Little Prince”) battle it out instead of choosing just one or two songs from each of them?

    • BTS

Best Original Musical Score can be activated if the Music Branch of the Academy Awards put in a request to the Board of Governors if their is a sufficient amount of eligible films that calendar year. The films must contain five or more songs, each by a single person and up to five people and they must be the same people for all the songs. The songs must be to use to further the plot and emphasize the story, not for background music or just place in the film just because.
Also seeing the past nominees, I would say, their needs to be at least three films that can be eligible. So check the credits on the songs for each film, see if they have five or more, and if they have the same people working on each song.

      • gaft24

So that’s how it works? I thought it had to do with Menken winning everything…

    • Emmanuel Malek

That category has always been a problem with the Academy ,they open it ,then they close it , then they re open it again , a pity indeed a good example of that is 1980 ,when “Fame” won Best Original Score being it more a musical (that year the category was closed) , “The Empire Strikes Back” should have won that year or even the romantic score for “Tess” , this year if the category is closed it means “La La Land” will win it , another injustice since it doesn’t fit 100% in the Original Score category.

  • Jonathan

Simple correction – Hidden Figures’ song is not titled just “Victory”, it’s titled “I See a Victory”.

  • chltjwls

“Drive It Like You Stole It” should get nominated, and two previous John Carney movies have been nominated in this category (with “Once” winning).

    • Emmanuel Malek

That’s a very good song indeed.

  • TomNewYorker

won’t happen, but, I would love if the song Cocaine from the Movie White Girl gets a Nomination.

  • TomNewYorker

also, either tho the film itself is Terrible, Castle by Halsey from the movie Huntsman: Winter’s War was pretty good.

Maybe the only best part about the film

    • BTS

“Castle” by Halsey is ineligible since it was a song, already published, used for the film “The Huntsman: Winter’s War”.

  • Jonathan

Clayton: for Hidden Figures, the song is titled “I See a Victory”, not just “Victory”

  • Whistler

No one is considering the Swiss Army Man score? “Montage” could be a serious contender if the Academy grew up and watched a movie regardless of elitist concerns (it’s not all farting corpses).

  • Cory M

Why no mention of Twenty One Pilots “Heathens”? It matches the qualifications, was written specifically for the movie, is the lead song for the credits, was not realeased previously nor on any other album, and is by far biggest hit among all the songs mentioned above. So, what am I missing?

    • BTS

I agree, if they could nominated “Fifty Shades of Grey” for “Earned It” by The Weekend, very popular song, I think they could highly consider “Heathens” from “Suicide Squad” by Twenty One Pilots. but we shall see… and Twenty One Pilots performing at the Oscars? That would be awesomeness!!

    • Trev

A hit song isn’t a guaranteed contender. Remember “See You Again” from Fast and Furious 7.

      • Emmanuel Malek

“See You Again” ,deserved to win last year , The Grammys even nominated it for Song of the Year among thousands of songs, that shows a lot about the Academy not only in terms of music.

        • Trev

The Grammys are just as out of touch as the Oscars are, but in a different way. The Grammys usually just nominate popular songs on mainstream radio, so it’s not that impressive that “See You Again” was nominated for Song of the Year.

And the Academy did right by not nominating “See You Again”. It’s a terrible song.

          • Emmanuel Malek

Hi Trev, u got a point there, as i pay attention to the Grammy nominees through the years ,the list of nominees is mostly composed of songs from the charts ,so obscure unpopular songs have a hard time landing a Grammy nomination in the major categories. Music is a very subjective medium even more than film ,one may love one song the other one hates it , like Mr.Spock would say : fascinating!

          • Aem

In an even more terrible year.

I thought the two strongest contenders last year both missed even getting nom’d (the other 50 shades song and see you again)… a hugely forgettable Bond theme ended up winning over the inferior 50 Shades song, an issue song that was musically underwhelming by Gaga and two others so average I can’t even remember them.

    • Reab Niloc

      Heathens was shortlisted.

  • I will throw a fit if “Try Everything” is not nominated.

    • Tobey

    • Emmanuel Malek

Not even a chance for that song.So i guess you will be throwing a fit.

  • Chris

What about Sia’s Angel By The Wings from that documentary movie?

  • keepin up w/ rihfan

    Star trek’s sledgehammer?

  • Daniel Motta

What about La La Land’s “Someone in the Crowd”? I can easily picture that as a big number being played in the ceremony

  • Jordan De Pass

Who knows? Is this the start of something wonderful….? Or one more dream, that I cannot make true…? CITY OF STARS ALL THE WAY

  • sailingsam

You should Add “Hurry Home” from Max Rose as the best song of the year…written by Michel Legrand /Alan & Marilyn Bergman…also Iggy Pop “Gold” from Gold, Moonshine from Live by Night…but City of Star could win although it is a very simple tune.

  • sailingsam
  • Stein-Erik Rutledal

    Why no Popstar?

  • Jonathan

“The Great Beyond” could be the new “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” from Ted.

  • Bryce

    La La Land: Audition
La La Land: City of Stars
    Moana: How Far I’ll Go
    Sausage Party: Great Beyond
Sing Street: Drive it Like You Stole it

    City of Stars hands down.

  • Juliette Marotta

You didn’t list “Who I Am” from “What Happened Last Night,” which is also on the list. Here are the songs from that film:

    WHO I AM –

  • Brennan

I think How Far I’ll Go could be a spoiler. The Academy loves Disney songs.

  • Patrick Downing

I See Victory is toast after Kim Burrell’s hate filled rant.

  • Patrick Downing

If Lin-Manual Miranda wins for How Far I’ll Go he became a an EGOT.

    • Agnes

      Actually even PEGOT

  • I personally can’t stand Can’t Stop the Feeling. If the Academy can leave out that Furious 7 song from last year, they can leave out another front-runner this year.

    1. City of Stars -La La Land
    2. How Far I’ll Go -Moana
    3. Audition (The Fools Who Dream) -La La Land
    4. Runnin’ -Hidden Figures
    5. Try Everything -Zootopia

  • Pokermask

Here are my predictions for Best Original Song at the moment:
“Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” – La La Land
“Can’t Stop the Feeling” – Trolls
“City of Stars” – La La Land
“How Far I’ll Go” – Moana
    “Runnin” – Hidden Figures

Top choice: “City of Stars” – La La Land

  • Aem

I’ll be genuinely surprised if Drive It Like You Stole It doesn’t get a nomination. Try Everything to push hard too, with Runnin and The Great Beyond the two most in danger of dropping out of the list here.

The Moana song vs City of Stars for the win.

  • Reece

If “Drive It Like You Stole It” doesn’t get a nomination, I will sob for a week. That song was the best part of the sensational movie Sing Street. I STILL have it in my Spotify music!

  • Mangesh Gaikwad

    # Song ::
1.City of Stars (La La Land)

    2.How Far I’ll Go (Moana)
    3.Can’t stop the feeling (Trolls)
4.Audition – Fools who Dreams (La La Land)
5.Letter to the Free (13th) /Sausage Party– The Great Beyond /Hidden Figures-Runnin/ Rules Don’t Apply

  • Alec Glass

Is Kubo’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” not in the running b/c it wasn’t submitted or wasn’t deemed eligible or is it just assumed to be a non-factor?

    • TheLillypop

It isnt an original song. It’s a cover of a song by the Beatles. So its not eligible.

      • Alec Glass

ah! Ashamed to have not known that haha, thanks!

        • TheLillypop

haha no problem! I didnt know that at first as well, had to do some research about the movie to find out xD

  • 22cinema11

If I had to choose the nominees, I’d pick for my personal ballot:

    1. Another Day Of Sun (La La Land)
    2. Someone in the Crowd (La La Land)
    3. Drive It Like You Stole It (Sing Street)
    4. The Great Beyond (Sausage Party)
    5. Try Everything (Zootopia)

“La La Land” has so much wonderful music in it and “City of Stars” may very well take home the deserved Oscar, but personally, I liked the uptempo numbers slightly better than the “slower” ones that have better chances of winning. And I truly hope “Drive It Like You Stole It” gets in because it’s a great song. As my prediction, I’d say “City of Stars” (La La Land), “Audition – The Fools Who Dream” (La La Land), “How Far I’ll Go” (Moana), “Can’t Stop The Feeling” (Trolls) and “Runnin'” (Hidden Figures) will make the cut.

  • BTS

Personally, my top 5 favorite are:
    “Land of All” – Desierto
“Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” – La La Land
“Wish That You Were Here” – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children
“Dancing in the Shadows” – Po
“Drive It Like You Stole It” – Sing Street

But I feel these would be the ones nominated:
“Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” – La La Land
“City of Stars” – La La Land
“How Far I’ll Go” – Moana
“Drive It Like You Stole It” – Sing Street
“Can’t Stop the Feeling” – Trolls

With “Runnin'” – Hidden Figures replacing one of them
And “The Empty Chair” – Jim: The James Foley Story OR “Heathens” – Suicide Squad, for the surprise

  • Stop readingMyOpinionSucks

Zootopia had a nice song but honestly without the music video or movie I won’t really listen to it.

  • Reece

I’m devastated that Sing Street missed ;-(

  • Kiki Fogg

Of course Disney put up Moana over Pete’s Dragon, but I was so optimistic about “Something Wild”!

  • Sandra

Weird that they were pushing La La Land’s worst two songs for the nom. Would have been all in for Another Day of Sun or Someone In The Crowd to win. Oh well. Hoping for a split so Lin-Manuel Miranda can get his EGOT.

    • 22cinema11

Completely agreed! I also liked the uptempo songs in “La La Land” much better than the slow numbers. It’s a shame that “Another Day of Sun” and “Someone In the Crowd” weren’t even mentioned as contenders for the whole awards season.

      • Reece

bruh, Start a Fire was the best song imo

  • life is a state of mind

La La Land’s songs sucked. The best song I’ve heard all year is “Up” from Sing Street.
Sadly, the put-you-to-sleep City of Stars from La La Land will win.

  • Nastee

Thanks to the homophobic remarks of gospel singer Kim Burrell, “i See Victory” from Hidden Figures was not nominated.

  • oscarstan

Go Céline Dion for Beauty and the Beast!
