COMMENTARY:
ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY-
Woody Allen won the Globe and Critics Choice. He was cited by dozens of critics groups and people would love to reward him one more time. Michel Hazanavicius is the only threat given “The Artist” goes on a rampage and takes everything. “Bridesmaids” is too cool, “Margin Call” being there is reward enough, and “A Separation” will get its mention in the Foreign Language category.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Aaron Sorkin, Steven Zaillian, and Stan Chervin have been beating out some stiff competition at award shows. Where this looked like “The Descendants” and the writing team’s award to lose, “Moneyball” is jumping out in front. “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” and the surprise mentions in various categories could give some inclination that voters want to see it win something. This would be the place to do that. “Hugo” and John Logan are arguably the weakest part of the visual spectacle and George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Beau Wilimon are lucky to have made it in the end for “The Ides of March.” Watch out for a “Precious” like surprise.

So weird that Community’s Jim Rash is going to be an Oscar nominee and possibly winner.
My picks for Original Screenplay: Terrence Malick for The Tree of Life, Sean Durkin for Martha Marcy May Marlene, Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist, Woody Allen for Midnight in Paris, and Im going out on a limb here: Jeff Nichols for Take Shelter. Who I want to win: Terrence Malick’s personal and powerful film deserves something. He deserves something. Although he’s made only five films in the last 40 some odd years he has been such an important and talented filmmaker. He deserves to be decorated at the very least for a screenplay award. Who will win: Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist. Usually, and do the research on this one, the two most likely contenders for the best picture award is the winner of the adapted screenplay award and the original screenplay award. Crash and Brokeback Mountain. The Social Network and The Kings Speech. All were either the winner or the runner up of the Best Picture oscar and all won an award for either adapted screenplay or original. This year will be no different as I guarantee that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Artist will be the winner and the runner up this year for best picture, respectively. My picks for adapted screenplay: Hossein Amini for Drive, Steve Zaillian for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Alexander Payne for The Descendants, Eric Roth for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Richard Curtis and Lee Hall for War Horse. Who I want to win: If you’ve read my other predictions for the other categories you will find that I hold a special place in my heart for Drive this year. Amini will never take a statue home this year but it would be definetly mind blowing seeing him react to the most surprising win in academy history. Who will win: Lets see, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo winning for Best Picture and Best Director… you might as well throw in an adapted screenplay award to boot. It will win.
I agree with the choices here, except in Adapted I think The Help will overtake Ides of March.
I don’t feel Bridesmaids is “to cool” as much as it is “a terrible screenplay”
