Apparently the New York Film Critics are going to be announcing their awards in a unique way next week…by using Twitter.  I’m sure many will be annoyed by this, but it doesn’t bother me one bit.  Anyway, here’s the Press Release:

New York Film Critics Circle
Announce
2011 Twitter Handle and Voting Date Shift

November 21, 2011 — The New York Film Critics Circle announced today that they will be announcing their awards during their annual vote via twitter, please follow the handle @NYFCC2011. Also, the vote has been shifted back a day and will now take place the morning of Tuesday, November 29th, at the Walter Reade Theatre at Lincoln Center. The awards will be handed out at a ceremony on Monday, January 9, 2012.

Traditionally, the start of every precursor season has been the nominations for the Gotham Awards (coming in one of the next few posts actually, so stay tuned) and more importantly the National Board of Review’s announcement.  So it comes as a bit of a surprise that the New York Critics have jumped to the head of the pack.  Steve Pond over at Reuters goes over what this means:
