The Quarterfinals kicked off last night on The Voice, and I am pleased to report that this was the best week of the live rounds thus far. Sure, no one completely knocked my socks off the way that Charlotte Sometimes (why isn’t she still around?) and Juliet Simms did the past two weeks, but as an entire body of work, most every performance from Teams Blake and Christina had me engaged in some manner. More than anything else this week, it was Christina Aguilera who blew me away as a judge. I am sure her shocking instant elimination will have people up in arms decrying cruelty, jealousy, and who knows what other slanderous comments. Her decision proved to me that she is someone who is not phased by America, instead pushing forth the best team possible. Christina’s brutal honesty and unwavering convictions instantly shoots her up as my favorite singing show judge on television. Would I have eliminated the person Christina shockingly chose to cut? No, but I wouldn’t have anointed them an undeserving frontrunner crown either. All said, it was a great night, with two fairly correct eliminations, and a heck of a show with performances that finally entertained without looking like Barnum and Bailey stopped by. Without further ado, here is my full review disclosure… Read more on ‘The Voice’ Recap: Quarterfinals Part 1…

The Live Rounds kicked off this week on The Voice, and after one show I’m already missing my beloved Idol. This is not to say all twelve performers were bad, simply that it’s become apparent how much more exciting Teams Cee Lo and Adam are compared to Teams Christina and Blake, who were all somewhat low-key last night. Aside from three performers, there wasn’t really all that much I could praise. If I sound like a hater, you have me mistaken for somebody else. I’ve been commenting on this show’s high quality for weeks, but this performance night just didn’t measure up to Idol’s standards. Take a look after the jump to see the countdown from worst to best performances. My lineup may surprise you.

After this week, I have now switched loyalties back to my former love, American Idol, because for the life of me I could not wrap my head around some of the winners of last night’s opening Battle Rounds on The Voice. Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton cannot honestly sit there, look me in the eyes, and tell me that Chris Mann, Cheesa, and Jordis Unga either out-sung or out-performed the competitors they supposedly “defeated!” This is ludicrous! Last season, only Lily Elise being chosen as the victor over Cherie Oakley in the Battle Rounds segment was the single glaringly wrongful decision made by a coach. Everything else was stellar, but with three “victor” choices last evening I vehemently oppose, The Voice may have destroyed any ounce of credible talent it had in comparison to Idol in one fell swoop of a disappointing episode.
