Since then, many have been looking forward to his next effort. We now have a poster for his second film, Elysium, starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, which opens August 9. One of the latest fairy tales to receive a film adaptation, Bryan Singer’s version of Jack and the Beanstalk, has a newly confirmed title and release date. Previously titled Jack the Giant Killer, the film will now be called Jack the Giant Slayer, in an attempt at sounding a bit less harsh for the intended PG-13 audience.

Perhaps the most anticipated panel on Friday, Sony previewed footage from their three scifi films, Total Recall, Looper and Elysium before a packed Hall H. Total Recall was first up and with the main cast in attendance, director Len Wiseman previewed a 7 minute reel with a ton of action sequences. The cast and creative team spoke about how the movie is different from the original in that it’s much more dramatic and darker in tone. Wiseman remarked that though this is a big action movie, he was intrigued by the central mystery of the film.

Yes, you read that right. the Awards Circuit will be heading to Comic-Con this year! From July 11-15, I will be attending the festival on behalf of the site to bring you all of the goings on of this great event. For those of you unfamiliar with Comic-Con, it started as a one day festival back in 1970 hosting 300 comic book enthusiasts over 3 days in sunny San Diego (Ray Bradbury was a featured guest). Now the festival boasts an attendance of 130,000 people who come to celebrate comics, genre fare, and geek culture. As someone who has long been a fan of genre fare, I’m excited to attend the convention for the first time and cover it for all our wonderful readers! Be sure to check back here frequently for recaps, exclusive interviews, and maybe a few special surprises. If any reader has a question about a particular panel, or would like to propose a possible “reader question” for an interview, please post in the comments, hit me up on the Awards Circuit Facebook page or send me a tweet or direct message on Twitter: @LeNoirAuteur.
Check out the top 5 things I’m excited to see at the festival as well as a tentative schedule of interviews you can look forward to seeing here!

One of my more anticipated films of 2013 is Neill Blomkamp’s follow-up to his unlikely Best Picture nominated sci-fi flick ‘District 9′ (which has grown on me more and more since its release). This next film of his is called ‘Elysium’ and it’s another sci-fi action flick with a political bent, this time seemingly focusing more on class warfare than race as its form of politics. Entertainment Weekly has the first look at Matt Damon in his lead role, and you can see the full image after the jump. I think he looks suitably badass, but you can decide for yourself below…

It’s arguable that only a handful of directors have exploded onto the scene the way that Neill Blomkamp did. With ‘District 9′, Blomkamp established himself as a director to watch, and now his sophomore feature ‘Elysium’ is getting some juicy new details. The film stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, among others, and doesn’t come out until next March, but Collider is reporting here that preview/test screenings are beginning and include a detailed plot synopsis. It’s a bit spoiler-y, so you can see that after the jump, but it seems like it could be a very cool flick. Read on below for the synopsis…
