Of the several feature documentaries that have been shortlisted for the 2013 Academy Awards, ‘Chasing Ice‘ (2012) is considered a frontrunner in the Oscar race. To share some thoughts after the completion and making it onto the 2013 Academy Awards shortlist for best documentary is one of the producers, Paula Dupré Pesmen, who also produced the multi-awarded and 2010 Oscar winner, ‘The Cove’ (2009). While preparing for film festivals and promotional events, she answered a few questions.

From the producer of The Cove (2009), Chasing Ice (2012) is one of the most profound and phenomenally shot documentaries to be released in 2012. From the beginning, the audience sees clip after clip of news footage about natural disasters that has happened within recent years, which successfully ends with a well-known reporter telling the world that there isn’t such a thing as global warming. I think this segment is meant to remind people of the dangerous encounters we’ve had with nature and it brings the audience into thinking about the serious fears awaiting in the future. The Producers Guild of America has announced in a press release that Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon have been re-elected to their positions as presidents. In addition to these choices, PGA Vice President of Motion Pictures Gary Lucchesi, Vice President of Television Hayma “Screech” Washington were re-elected, with Recording Secretary Gale Anne Hurd and Treasurer Lori McCreary joining the national board of officers. The decisions were announced at the PGA’s membership meeting, which kicks off the fourth annual Produced By Conference (PBC) at Sony Pictures Studios. More than 1,400 film, television and new media producers, as well as entertainment industry members will attend panel sessions, unique mentoring roundtables, special workshops and exhibits. LOS ANGELES, CA (November 9, 2011) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today that internationally acclaimed comic book legend Stan Lee will receive the Producers Guild’s 2012 Vanguard Award. The award will be presented to Lee at the 23rd Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, January 21st at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
Known to millions as the man who propelled Marvel Comics to its preeminent position in the comic book industry, Lee’s famous co-creations include Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, The Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Daredevil, The Avengers, Silver Surfer and Dr. Strange, among many others.
“Stan Lee’s creative vision and imagination has produced some of the most beloved and visually stunning characters and adventures in history,” said Producers Guild Awards co-chairs Paula Wagner and Michael Manheim. “He not only has created content that will forever be in our culture but continues to make strides in the digital and new media realms, keeping the comic book industry fresh and exciting.
