With the Oscars steadily receding in the rear-view, it’s time to set up the landscape for the next year’s show. Perhaps too early for any real contenders, though, this week shows with a mixed bag of a CGI-laden fairy tale in Jack the Giant Slayer, an eery thriller from Oldboy director, Chan-wook Park’s Stoker , and 21 and Over, a raucous college comedy.

Stoker is a delightfully demented film that derives its pleasures from uncomfortable situations, shocking violence and magnetic characters. Chan-wook Park bring his trademark visual style to deliver a feast for the eyes. And yet despite this and some fabulous performances from Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman, the plot never lets you embrace the film as fully as you might want. It’s an incredible film, albeit one that keeps you a bit at arms length when it should be wrapping you up in a creepy embrace.

As we get ready to enter the brand new year, it’s never too late to get on the ball for potential Oscar contenders coming down the pike. Chan-wook Park’s Stoker starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode has a new poster and early word is already positive for Wasikowska who’s been an up and comer and potential Supporting Actress nominee Kidman. The film is scheduled to be shown at the upcoming Sundance Film Festival and opens in limited release March 1, 2013.
Also releasing some beautiful character posters is Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and Tobey Maguire. A few weeks back, we stumbled across the character posters for Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher and with the latest, Mulligan’s Daisy is the most aesthetically pleasing. The film is set to open May 10, 2013.
Receiving mixed reviews from the Toronto Film Festival, Terrence Malick’s To the Wonder releases three French posters showcasing Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem. The film is set to be released April 12, 2013 and will also be available on Video on Demand.
Check out all the posters after the jump.

This week we were privy to several posters from upcoming films. We had a teaser for The Wolverine (due out next July), a half sheet for Quartet (which goes wide in January), and full length posters for Wreck-It Ralph (this weekend), Hitchcock (in limited release in November) and Oz: The Great and Powerful (March 8th). But the poster of the week goes to Chan-wook Park’s upcoming horror/drama, Stoker. Have a look at the entire showcase after the jump.

Presented in all its creepy glory, without that annoying ET voice over, the first full length trailer for Park Chan-wook’s newest film Stoker arrived online today. The film, scripted by Prison Break star Wentworth Miller, is a thriller about a teen who is mourning the death of her father and must deal with an evil mom and an eccentric uncle who shows up unexpectedly. There are some hints to old horror films (Uncle Charlie) and Nicole Kidman looks like she’s really enjoying tearing into the role as the evil mom. The flick stars Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode is set to arrive in theaters March 1, 2013. Check out the trailer after the jump! Once thought to be a possible Oscar contender this year, Chan-wook Park’s English language debut ‘Stoker’ is now going to have to be a player next year, if it’s to be a player at all. Box Office Mojo is now listing it here as a 2013 release, and an early year release at that…coming out in March (the 1st, to be exact). Does this mean it’s not really a contender? Time will tell, and after the jump you can get refresher on just what the film is about. In any event, I’m definitely looking forward to this one. Check out more on ‘Stoker’ below…
