Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second installment in what is now The Hobbit Trilogy. The trailer will drop theatrically in front of Man of Steel this weekend (read Terence’s review for that film here). We brought you a first look at Smaug’s new poster on Sunday, which is quite lovely. After the jump have a look at the trailer, in which Bilbo, Gandalf, Thorin, and the rest of the dwarves resume their adventure to Erebor – in The Lonely Mountain – to try and reclaim their fortunes from the fearsome dragon. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be in theaters on December 13.
Martin Freeman, Ian McKellan, Christopher Lee, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Lee Pace, and Richard Armitage all return, while Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Orlando Bloom, Stephen Fry, and Benedict Cumberbatch (voicing Smaug) join the cast this time around. I’m a little excited.
