Walt Disney Studios just announced that Academy Award nominee Helena Bonham Carter has been cast in the upcoming live action version of Cinderella. Bonham Carter, who was previously nominated for The King’s Speech (2010) and The Wings of the Dove (1997), will be playing the fairy godmother that gives the young beauty the chance to meet the man of her dreams.
This comes just weeks after it was announced that Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett will be playing the wicked stepmother along with Lily James (Wrath of the Titans) in the title role and Richard Madden (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”) as Prince Charming. The film is being directed by Kenneth Branagh and co-adapted by Aline Brosh McKenna and Chris Weitz.
The film is scheduled to be released sometime in 2014.
