‘Nebraska’ loses its ratings appeal and will be rated R!

cannes13_nebraska-thumb-630xauto-38498I know we’re all eagerly awaiting the new Alexander Payne flick, but apparently we all missed out on a bit of controversy about the film. It seems that Nebraska was initially rated R for “some language” and was set for an appeal with the MPAA. For obvious reasons, Paramount was hoping to get the rating changed to a PG-13 since there’s seemingly no sex or violence to speak of in the movie, which stars Bruce Dern and Will Forte. It was all for naught though, as the ratings board upheld their ruling and Nebraska is officially rated R.

So what now? Well, the film is still headed for an awards season release, but I suppose this just means that the dozen teenagers in the country that were interested in Payne’s movie will now have to convince their parents to take them. Essentially, not a big deal, but it’s fascinating that this was all so under the radar, at least to me…
