ACCA TV Winners Give Five to AMC’s ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Behind the Candelabra’ takes 3!

breakingbad2On this week’s edition of the Awards Circuit Power Hour, I announced the winners of the 2nd Annual Awards Circuit Community Awards for Television.  Judging by the nominees, the race was completely open and our readership didn’t disappoint when it came to unlikely winners and runners-up.

AMC’s “Breaking Bad” was the big winner winning five awards including Best Drama Series.  All three of its principal cast members, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, and Anna Gunn won their respective acting categories.  The hit-show, which begins its final season this month, also won for Best Writing for a Drama Series.  “Breaking Bad” didn’t get all the glory in the top category as we had a tie that was shared with HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” one of its only two wins.  It also won Best Cast Ensemble in a Drama Series.  Claire Danes nabbed her second consecutive Lead Actress award for her role on Showtime’s “Homeland.”

ACCAIn the Comedy categories, love was spread out evenly.  CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” nabbed the top award for Best Comedy Series along with Lead Actor for Jim Parsons.  ABC’s “Modern Family” won two awards for Supporting Actress Sofia Vergara and Cast Ensemble while NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” also won two for Lead Actress Amy Poehler and Supporting Actor Nick Offerman.  Poehler tied her award with Zooey Deschanel from FOX’s “New Girl.”  FX’s “Louie” managed one award for Best Writing in a Comedy Series.

In TV Movie or Mini-Series categories, HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra” and FX’s “American Horror Story: Asylum” spread the wealth between them.  The HBO film about the love between Scott Thorson and Liberace, won Best TV Movie or Mini-Series, Best Writing, and Best Actor for Michael Douglas.   “American Horror Story: Asylum” won three acting awards for Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, and Sarah Paulson.

The full winners are listed below with the runners-up.  Thanks for voting and being a member of our community.  We’re gearing up for ACCA 1998 and hopefully will be gearing up to open voting by the end of the weekend.  Saving Private Ryan vs. Shakespeare in Love?  or something entirely different like The Thin Red Line, The Truman Show, or American History X?  Sure hope so.
