Wow! I didn’t see this one coming. While Warner Brothers and filmmaker Zack Snyder were reportedly considering actors like Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel that will see the dark knight team up with Superman, but apparently they’ve settled on their leading man, and it’s Ben Affleck. We tend to think of Affleck almost more as a filmmaker now than an actor, but I think he’s a great choice for the part and can definitely go toe to toe with Henry Cavill.
Here’s what WB’s Greg Silverman had to say:
“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” said WB’s president of production Greg Silverman. “His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character.”
And here’s Snyder:
“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can’t wait to work with him.”
This is obviously breaking news, so much more will be coming soon, but again…wow! Be sure to let us know what you think about this bit of casting. I for one am excited not only about this sequel, but the possibility of Affleck starring in his own caped crusader franchise down the line…
