Warner Brothers has unveiled a new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, the second installment in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Ian McKellan), and the band of dwarves continue their adventure to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor – and the countless gold it contains – from the fearsome dragon, Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). Ian McKellan, Richard Armitage, Sylvester McCoy, Orlando Bloom, and (LOST’s) Evangeline Lilly also star.
Say what you will about Jackson’s decision to turn The Hobbit into a trilogy, or the length of the first installment in the series, but what Jackson has done for fans of Middle-earth is downright unprecedented. You can’t deny the lush cinematography or ground-breaking special effects we get to witness with each new film, and I, for one, am totally geeked out to see what they bring to the table in Smaug.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens December 13.
