In recent years, the trend has been for TV shows to become movies but FX is reversing the trend with their TV adaptation of the Oscar winning film Fargo. To help bring the tale to the small screen, FX has tapped Martin Freeman and Colin Hanks to star alongside Billy Bob Thorton in the 10 episode limited series. Freeman is set to play a small town insurance agent who gets sets on a downward spiral by Thorton’s manipulative Lorne Malvo. Hanks will play Gus Grimly, a police deputy and single dad who must choose between his own personal safety and his duty as a policeman when he comes face-to-face with a killer. No word yet if they’re going to cast someone in the Marge Gunderson role made famous by Oscar winner Frances McDormand.
The pilot will be directed by Adam Bernstein and written by My Generation‘s Noah Hawley, and executive produced by Hawley, Joel and Ethan Coen, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi, Warren Littlefield and Geyer Kosinski.
