It’s finally here. Academy Idol Season 7 voting opens up today. The staff writers and I have dwindled the 40 contenders down to 20 and you can now vote on those films.
If you’re unaware of Academy Idol and its existence, let me explain. Academy Idol, which is loosely based on every competition show that’s currently on television, is one of our many community games that puts the power of awards season in your hands. Each week, you’ll vote for your favorite films based on the theme of the week. Past winners of this competition have included Zero Dark Thirty, Shame, The Social Network, Inglourious Basterds, Wall-E, and There Will Be Blood.
The early rounds will work as follows:
You are voting on the 10 Original films and 10 Adapted films separately. The top five highest vote-getters of each group will move on to the next round of the competition. This Sunday, the entire staff and I will choose one film to return to the competition. YOU will then vote once again for those films. The top two highest vote-getters of that group will complete YOUR Top 12. From then on, one film will be eliminated each week until we’re down to your Season 7 winner which will be announced on Oscar night during a LIVE broadcast of Power Hour.
The theme of this first round will be: PERFORMANCES – You will vote on each film by the strength of the performances by both lead and supporting actors in the film.
The polls are down below. Vote for your favorites and make sure to include your suggestions to the staff about which films SHOULD be called back for the Wild Card round.
