Oscars 2014: Will Win/Should Win (Michael Balderston)

Will Win: Matthew McConaughey – Dallas Buyers Club

Should Win: Leonardo DiCaprio – The Wolf of Wall Street

Should Have Been Nominated: Oscar Isaac – Inside Llewyn Davis

The “McConassiance” will come to a head next Sunday, as Matthew McConaughey will win best actor after successfully reinventing his career three years ago. This will be the first time the McConaughey and Leonardo DiCaprio go head to head at an awards show, but McConaughey’s work has been just too dominant. It’s great work from McConaughey, but DiCaprio gave the best performance of his career in “The Wolf of Wall Street” and to see him finally get that elusive win would be a fantastic Oscar moment.

Will Win: Cate Blanchett – Blue Jasmine

Should Win: Cate Blanchett – Blue Jasmine

Should Have Been Nominated: Adele Exarchopoulos – Blue is the Warmest Color

There’s a reason that Cate Blanchett has been the favorite since July – her performance is just that good. Not a slight against any of the other nominees, who all gave good performances, but Blanchett knocked it out of the park and will slide right on into the winner’s circle.
