Mark down Inherent Vice for Oscar contention folks. At the very least, Warner Brothers must be feeling good about their chances with Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest flick, as it’s going to be coming out on December 12th, right in the thick of when Best Picture nominees hit theaters. PTA again has Joaquin Phoenix in a starring role after his towering work in The Master, with Reese Witherspoon, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Jena Malone, and Benecio Del Toro in prime supporting parts. You can see the official report below, but I’m always down for a new Anderson movie, and this one is no exception. The film might even premiere at the Cannes Film Festival too, so stay tuned for more news on the Inherent Vice front in the weeks to come…
Here’s the quick bit of news from Variety:
Warner Bros. has set Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Inherent Vice” for release on Dec. 12.
The big question now is whether the film will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, as has been rumored. Anderson’s “The Master” wasn’t ready for Cannes in 2012 and premiered at Venice instead.
Pic stars Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon and Josh Brolin, and the studio is eyeing an awards season run. Based on the Thomas Pynchon novel, the dark crime comedy also stars Owen Wilson and Benecio Del Toro.
