TomHardy_TheDrop_AnimalRescueLooking ahead to the 2014-2015 awards season, one of the film’s that many have anticipated is Michaël R. Roskam‘s Animal Rescue written by Dennis Lehane.  According to the film’s iMDB’s page, the title has been changed from the interesting “Animal Rescue” to now the generic sounding The Drop.

The movie marks the final film appearance for James Gandolfini who passed away early last summer.  An all-star cast joins the late Gandolfini including Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, Matthias Schoenaerts, and John Ortiz.  This is Dennis Lehane’s first screenplay after writing the novels that were adapted into Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, and Shutter Island.  Director Michaël R. Roskam helmed the Oscar-nominated picture for Best Foreign Language Film Bullhead before being invited to join the Academy in June 2012.  He’s also slated to direct Brad Pitt in a film called The Tiger sometime in the near future.

The film is being distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures and will be released September 19, 2014.
