Directed by: Jean-Marc Vallée
Written by: Nick Hornby
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Gaby Hoffman, Laura Dern, Michiel Huisman, Kevin Rankin.

Synopsis: A chronicle of one woman’s 1,100-mile solo hike undertaken as a way to recover from a recent catastrophe.

Why It Might Succeed:

Jean-Marc Vallée, the director. Vallée had monumental success in 2013 with Dallas Buyers Club. His film earned 6 Oscar nominations, including his first ever nom for editing. It won 3, including acting wins for Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto.

If his good luck continues, and the film gets a fall release, I could definitely see this getting some Oscar love. THIS IS A TRUE STORY PEOPLE. The Academy loves true stories. There is one problem, which brings me to…….

Why It Might Fail:

Reese Witherspoon, the star and producer. I’m truly sorry, but after her undeserving Oscar win for Walk the Line, she hasn’t delivered a performance worth talking about. Not that her June Carter Cash was anything special, but still. She could hold this movie back.

On second thought, don’t they always nominate Meryl Streep for delivering garbage performances? They also nominated Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty……maybe Tracy Flick does have a small chance. Nevertheless, I don’t see this getting the same love that DBC had this past awards season.

Oscar Chances:

Best Picture
Best Lead Actress (I type this while laughing, I must say)
Best Director
Best Adapted Screenplay
