Circuit 3: Ralph Fiennes

Ah, the great and beloved Ralph Fiennes finally gets a Circuit 3. One of the best actors of the past twenty-some odd years, Ralph Fiennes has been a central character in Best Picture winners like Schindler’s List and The English Patient, a memorable villain from book adaptations like Harry Potter and Red Dragon, and has even displayed a bit of comedic genius in this year’s The Grand Budapest Hotel.

It might surprise some of you, I’m sure, to learn that Mr. Fiennes has only been nominated for the Academy Award twice in his career. His first nomination came for portraying the maniacal Nazi Commandant Amon Goeth in Steven Spielberg’s sole Best Picture winner, Schindler’s List (Supporting Actor; 1993). His second nod was for the vastly underappreciated film, The English Patient (Lead Actor; 1996), which will forever be hated on for beating Fargo for the biggest prize of the year.

My Circuit 3 for Ralph Fiennes:

  1. Schindler’s List (1993)
  2. The English Patient (1996)
  3. The Hurt Locker (2009)
