Circuit 3: The Characters of Mad Men

This weekend, the big release is Furious 7. But if you thought for one second I would dedicate a Circuit 3 to that franchise, you’re probably as likely see a week dedicated to Michael Bay.

Instead, let’s dedicate this edition to one of the greatest TV dramas of all time, Mad Menwhich premieres its final season this weekend on AMC. The show – which debuted in 2007 – has been on the air for seven seasons (with the seventh annoyingly being divided into two parts a la Breaking Bad.)

Losing Mad Men – along with the aforementioned Breaking Bad in 2013 – represents the end of the golden age of television as far as I’m concerned. Whether you feel that dramatic about it or not, at the very least I would hope most people understand there is going to be a changing of the guard for elite television programming. For those of us astute enough to enjoy savvy and creative writing, first-rate acting, and exceptional production design, we know that the hole that Mad Men will leave on television may never be fully filled.

So that being said, let’s tip our fedoras and raise our Old Fashions to Don Draper and the rest of the cast of this excellent, all-time great show by ranking our three favorite characters of Mad Men.

My Circuit 3 for the characters of Mad Men:

  1. Don Draper (Jon Hamm)
  2. Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss)
  3. Roger Sterling (John Slattery)
